For energy utilities all across the worldwide, Energy Accounting & Audit at various voltage levels holds the key for effective business operations as well as to maintain profitability. Nowadays, it becomes more so important because , recently, the Ministry of Power ,GOI, issued notification S.O.3445(E) dated 28th September 2020 to mandatorily cover all the Electricity Distribution Companies (Discoms) for carrying out Energy Accounting & Audit under Energy Conservation Act. As per the notification , formulated in consultation with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), all the Distribution Licensees are being notified as Designated Consumers. Due to this , all the Discoms, now, will be governed under the various provisions of Energy Conservation Act including appointment of Energy Managers & Energy Auditors. This initiave of MoP is expected to helps Discoms to monitor their key performance indicators (KPI’s) ; bringing transparency into the system as well as to avail different incentives under various central & state funded schemes. Optimization of Power Purchase Cost both at Industrial & Utility Level

As we all know that Power is considered to be as an important factor / input cost for any kind of Business. For instance, in Electricity Distribution Business, Power Procurement Costs (PPC) is of the order of 85.0% of the total Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) and supposed to be the crucial / deciding factor for setting up of the retail tariff of different consumer categories. Any increase / decrease in PPC will be having a cascading effect on the tariff structure. Now, with the advent of Open Access Regulations almost in every state / UT’s as well as the availability of different products / multiple avenues like Power Exchanges; Bilateral Power Trading & various other E-Platforms; managing power purchase cost has become quite easy / feasible.
